It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of our cherished bookstore’s closure. This place of wonder, where stories lived and thrived, has been an integral part of our lives. The owner, with a legacy of passion for books, has made the difficult decision to close the physical location.

In the spirit of keeping the love for literature alive and honoring the memories created within those walls, we, a group of dedicated supporters, have decided to maintain the website. This isn’t just a site; it’s a digital tribute to a place that connected souls and stories.

Our final day is Jan 14th.(sat )

  • We are open 10:30 to 6:00 Tue. to Sat.  We are closed Sun. and Mon.
  • Redeem all gift cards A.S.A.P.!
  • We are not buying any more used books or records, so please do not bring anything into the store to sell.
  • Please do not place any on-line orders through our website as we are in the process of closing accounts with all our suppliers.
  • Our shelves are full, we are ready for a great Xmas sale.  Take advantage of our lower prices and stay tuned on our website, instagram or facebook pages for more SALE updates.

After 33 years, Hemingways will be closing.  Our lease ends on January 31st, but we need 2-3 weeks to remove shelves and displays so our final sale date is tentatively January 14th, 2023.

We have attempted to sell the business and we thought we had a buyer ready to take over but they pulled out November 21st.  Rising rents, co-vid complications and a massive re-imagining of the Downtown Abbotsford neighbourhood all contributed to our close.

To all our thousands of loyal customers we sadly must bid farewell.  We look forward to saying goodbye in person to many of you as these final weeks play out. We hope to make our last Xmas season a memorable one.
